Junior Golf Program
The Junior Golf Program at Riverview Golf & Country Club has been operating successfully for over 39 years. The first 34 years were under the tutelage of Kim Thurman and his staff, and most recently by Bill De Wildt. The program was designed to teach children, ages 7 through 17 the basic fundamentals, rules & etiquette of the game. Each year, our returning Juniors enjoy raising their level of play and preserving the game of golf for a lifetime of enjoyment, as well as competitive play.
It is interesting to note that over 3,500 young golfers have participated in this program over the years, and many have gone on to become active members of Riverview as well as accepting college golf scholarships around the country. Our overall objective is to educate, train, and graduate a person through levels of the program, thus upholding the integrity of the game of golf. Golf is a perfect activity for children of all ages. It provides whole-body exercise and muscle development. It also provides the spirit of friendly competition, and the sport relies on total HONESTY and COURTESY. Overall, golf is an environment in which young players develop integrity and values that will lead to an outstanding adulthood.
In our 2016 Junior Club Championship, Mark Stephens was our Boys Club Champion, and Amy Sarti. Congratulations to you both!
During 2016, we continued our approach to fund raising monies for our program during the Redding Pro-Am. Our committee helped organize a Golf Ball Drop, high above the first hole. This event has raised monies, not only for Riverview Junior Golf, but also for the Special Olympics of Shasta County as well. It was a huge success. The Junior Golf Program also raised monies by helping out in our Member Guest event, and we are continuing these fundraisers in 2017. Our Juniors also participated in a Travel Team competition with other Country Clubs in our area. Each Wednesday, our top Juniors would play in a competitive medal play (age group), with Juniors from other Country Clubs.
