Hole Information

Signature Hole: Hole #1                           (592 yard Par 5):

The 1st hole at Riverview is simply put, Amazing! The elevated tee shot overlooks the Sacramento River, the golf course anf the mountains west of town.  The river runs the length of the hole on the left side and is designated out of bounds.  To make the tee shot more daunting, there are large trees on the right that make escape difficult. Once you find your ball, you will need to hit a good second shot to a slightly elevated fairway.  If you are lucky enough, you may roll down a hill to get within 100 yards.  Typically you will be looking at a short to mid iron approach to a good sized green.  The green is protected by three greenside bunkers; front left, front right and back left.  The putting surface has many subtle breaks, so be careful.                                                     

Best Par Three: Hole #17                         (139 yards from Black Tee Par 3):

The 17th hole at Riverview is a challenging Par 3 that stretches to 139 yards from the Black Tees.  The main challenge is carrying the lake that fronts the green and stretches along the right side of the green.  There is a bunker on the right side of the green as well to catch off line shots to the green.  The putting surface is challenging in it's own right as well.  There are two distinct levels on the green and a false front on the front left side of the green.  Club choice is a challenge because of the pin placement and a deceptive wind.  Par is a great score on this hole. 

PRO'S TAKE:

Riverview Golf and Country Club is the classic golf course in Redding.  There are no hidden shots or trouble throughout the course.  To score well, you need to be able to place the ball in specific places to have a clear path to the putting green.  It is very Member friendly and a fun course to play day in and out.

MEMBER'S TAKE: 

Toughest Hole: Hole #13  is 409 yards from the Black Tees. The 13th is a strong Par 4 in the middle of the back nine.  From the tee the player needs to negotiate two large oak trees.  The second shot is 150 yards from the green.  Your approach needs to be precise to avoid the oak tree on the right side of the green.  In addition to the tree, the green has two bunkers guarding it.  When the hole is in the back of the green, it is a very tough hole.

Toughest Green:

The 7th green is considered our toughest green.  This green has two tiers and a lot of slope to it.  The whole slope is from right to left.  It is a challenge to get the ball close to the hole due to the slope of the green.
  
  
Toughest Stretch: 

Holes #16 - #18. The finishing stretch at Riverview is very challenging.  The 16th is a demanding par 4 where accuracy off the tee is a must.  If your drive ends up on the right side of the fairway, you will have to deal with a Digger Pine that hangs over the fairway 100 yards short of the green.  The green has 3 bunkers guarding it.  One is front and center, and two on the back left of the green.  Out of bounds is very close to the back side of the green.

As noted earlier, our 17th hole has all sorts of challenges.  Avoid the lake and greenside bunker, and you may get out of it with a par.

The 18th hole is a great finishing hole.  Out of bounds lines the entire left side of the hole, a lateral water hazard boarders theright side of the fairway.  If that isn't enough, a row of mature trees guards the right side of the fairway also.  This is the most demanding tee shot on the course.  The green is our biggest, most deceptive on the course.  It has a bunker on each side of the green to catch stray shots. Getting through this stretch is quite a challenge for players of all abilities. 

Easiest Stretch:

Holes #5 - #7. This stretch s about the shortest on the course with the longest hole being the 5th hole at 363 yards.  If you can hit the ball relatively straight, you should not have any problems.  The tee shot on 6 is a challenge, just find the fairway!

Easiest Hole:

The 5th Hole.  The tee shot is wide open.  The green is guarded by a bunker on the left and right and an oak tree on the right side of the green.  The green is fairly large, which could make putting a challenge but overall there is no real difficulty.
